survival kit

Perjovschi, Lia

Lia Perjovschi’s work explores how knowledge is collected, archived, structured, distributed and transmitted, including social, political and artistic knowledge. After the fall of communism in Romania, Perjovschi found little information available about contemporary art in other parts of the world. In response, together with Dan Perjovschi, she transformed her Bucharest studio into an archive of information on contemporary art, making magazines, books, and exhibition catalogs accessible for the first time. Perjovschi’s works general culture timeline and subjective art history form part of The Equality of Possibility, the group exhibition currently on show at the Kunstverein Bielefeld.

For this year’s Kunstverein annual edition offer, Perjovschi has produced survival kit, a collection of objects which hold out the promise of survival, but a survival more within civilization than beyond it. Individual items were selected in response to the coronavirus pandemic, a situation which continues to confront us with radically changed conditions for living together.
