THE ULTIMATE ATTRACTION

Ditz, Cordula

Cordula Ditz examines how our ideas of gender roles and identity are constructed, repeated and reinforced - especially through their representation in the media - and how they shape our (sub)consciousness. To this end, she uses found footage from the Internet, books, magazines and films, which she prints as collages on semi-transparent flag fabric. Ditz comments on and accentuates the resulting visual worlds, which interweave different times and media, through gestural painterly compositions. Ditz's works reveal the absurdity and also the potential for violence of normative inscriptions and negotiate the power of images. The artist has created nine unique works exclusively for the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof.
