Black Pages
Black Pages regards itself an exhibition space in printed form. Every issue adheres to a pre-determined structure: always produced in editions of 300, always in DIN A5 format, always printed in black and white. Internationally-known artists are invited to do as they wish with the twenty pages at their disposal, but only their first name will appear on the cover. In adhering to this principle, Black Pages continues to work in the tradition of the fanzine, an alternative communication medium widespread since the early twentieth century. In an installation at the Kunstverein Bielefeld in late 2020, Black Pages presented an overview of their entire back catalogue for the first time, totalling ninety-five published issues. Now, exclusively for the Kunstverein’s 2020–21 annual edition, Black Pages has produced six steel vitrines, each containing eight artist’s publications, some of them out of print.
