Kunstverein Nürnberg
Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft
Founded in 1792 by artists and art lovers, the Kunstverein Nürnberg is the oldest Kunstverein in Germany. Then and now, the institution dedicates its mission to the mediation of contemporary art and social issues that artists address in their work today. In its programme the Kunstverein presents regional, national and international art productions and thereby contributes significantly to cultural diversity in the city of Nuremberg. Since 2003, the Kunstverein has been located in the administration building of the former municipal milk distribution centre (“Milchhof”), designed by the architect Otto Ernst Schweizer (1890–1965) and built in 1929/1931. In the stately rooms of the building’s ground floor, the institution actively introduces through regular exhibitions, guided tours, talks, lectures and film screenings new ways of thinking within contemporary art and anchors them in our present age. The Kunstverein Nürnberg – Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft understands itself as a dynamic cultural venue where the social significance of contemporary art is discussed and reflected.
